Drafinsub has successfully concluded the preliminary operations of the demanding project to demolish three former dock gates at the dry docks in Genoa. The company, a specialist in complex underwater works, handled the delicate controlled refloating of the dock gates from docks 1 and 3 with its inshore team. Recovering the former dock gate from dock 4 required a full seabed intervention, including sealing, pipeline construction, and subsequent refloating. Drafinsub also provided comprehensive assistance during the transport of these structures to dock 3, where the final demolition will take place
This important intervention is part of the tender won by San Giorgio del Porto (SGdP) for the demolition of the former dock gates of docks 1, 3 and 4, as reported by Shipping Italy last February. Drafinsub, with its experience and expertise in the sector, was chosen by SGdP to manage the underwater part of the operation.
The project required careful planning and the use of cutting-edge technologies. Drafinsub, which had already carried out preliminary investigations and two years of monitoring of the structures on behalf of the Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mar Ligure Occidentale, used its deep knowledge of the site to ensure maximum safety and efficiency during all phases of the operation.
After each refloating of dock gates, and after obtaining approval for transport from RINA (Technical Body), the Drafinsub team assisted Tugboats and Moorers during the careful transport of the structures to dock 3, where they will be subjected to the subsequent demolition phases by San Giorgio del Porto.
